Ultraviolet Renormalon at All Orders
نویسنده
چکیده
We discuss the singularity in the Borel plane of the ultraviolet renormalon due to the multiple exchanges of the all-order Gell-Man–Low effective charges. A consistent picture of the UV renormalon emerges when the effective charge is considered in all orders. Contrary to the case of the one-loop effective charge, the strength of the singularity is independent of the number of exchanges. A systematic method to determine the residue and strength of the singularity is discussed.

The Status of Renormalon
It is shown that the series of renormalon–type graphs, which consist in the chain of insertions to one soft(hard) gluon(photon) line is in fact ill defined. Each new type of insertions, which appears in the higher orders of perturbation theory, generates the correction to renormalon of the order of ∼ 1. However, this series of the corrections to the asymptotics although have no small parameter ...
متن کاملHigher-order estimates of the chromomagnetic moment of a heavy quark
The leading β 0 α n s terms in the Wilson coefficient and anomalous dimension of the chromomagnetic operator in the heavy-quark effective Lagrangian are summed to all orders of perturbation theory. The perturbation series for the anomalous dimension is well behaved, while that for the Wilson coefficient exhibits a divergent behaviour already in low orders, caused by a nearby infrared renormalon...
متن کاملLarge-order Behaviour due to Ultraviolet Renormalons in QCD
Ultraviolet renormalons, contrary to their infrared counterparts, lead to a universal contribution to the large-order behaviour of perturbative expansions in QCD. In this letter, we determine nature of the leading ultraviolet renormalon singularity for the inclusive hadroproduction cross section in ee annihilation, for hadronic τ decays and the moments of deep-inelastic scattering structure fun...

We consider large-order perturbative expansions in QED and QCD. The coefficients of the expansions are known to be dominated by the so called ultraviolet (UV) renormalons which arise from inserting a chain of vacuum-polarization graphs into photonic (gluonic) lines. In large orders the contribution is associated with virtual momenta k of order Qe where Q is external momentum, e is the base of n...
متن کاملHeavy Quark Effective Theory beyond Perturbation Theory: Renormalons, the Pole Mass and the Residual Mass Term
We study the asymptotic behaviour of the perturbative series in the heavy quark effective theory (HQET) using the 1/Nf expansion. We find that this theory suffers from an ultraviolet renormalon problem, corresponding to a non-Borel-summable behaviour of perturbation series in large orders, and leading to a principal nonperturbative ambiguity in its definition. This ambiguity is related to an in...
